Recycling

Recycling brings me Joy!!!

Recycling defined “as the process of converting waste materials into new materials and objects’, “the process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products”.

I love putting materials in our yellow bin for Recycling.  A few years ago I didn't put as much of a priority on Recycling - yet now it is Joyful to me, making sure I put everything I can, everything that is supposed to be, in the Recycling bin.

I didn't know how important it was to be active, and focused on Recycling.  Doing research has taught me the importance of Recycling, where it is so concerning that plastic bags take 10-20 years to decompose and plastic bottles take 450 years.  It is shocking thinking that these end up in landfill if people are not conscious of Recycling by using their bins they have at home and also by making an effort with soft plastics too.

I love Recycling soft plastics.  Any plastic bag, popcorn packets, wrapping on toilet paper... any soft plastics - I love putting them in bags and taking them to Coles for their RedCycling so that they can make useful products.  I have 5 bags of soft plastics and I am looking forward to taking them with my children to Coles - this brings me Joy.

I love learning all about Recycling and as I have started saying to my children "you have to do your bit".  I have started teaching my children about Recycling and other processes that I am doing to make a difference.

Another thing I am big on now is wrapping rubbish too, rather than using plastic bags.  I remember my Dad doing this every night growing up.  I feel so happy doing this now.  I put all of the rubbish in a container and then wrap it at the end of the meal.  It is saving so much space in our bin and more importantly I am reducing the impact on landfill.

My biggest goal now is to buy a compost bin now so that all of my food scraps waste can go into the compost bin rather than into landfill.  It is so Joyful!

And I will find Joy in learning more and teaching my children too.
