Moonwalking

I love being things differently and being spontaneous and being outside our routine - the routine that only very loosely exits – where there is space for flexibility and fun.

Over the time we were doing homeschooling I enjoyed walking with my children doing treasure hunts.  And last week after hearing my friend say that her children and husband went for a bike ride after dinner, I initiated Moonwalking.

When you look up the definition of Moonwalking, it comes up as ‘walk on the surface of the moon’ or ‘dance the moonwalk’.  For me my definition or explation of Moonwalking is ‘walking outside in the evening, moonlight’.

My children love Moonwalking, it is a definite Joy Bringer in our household.  I think it is exciting for them as it is something else, something extra to do, before bedtime.  Plus they love that it is quiet at night and love spotting the bats and the moon and the stars and also love meeting dogs along the way.

I love this time with them.  I sometimes feel anxious when they run ahead of me and I am always a worrier of cars coming in and out of driveways yet they listen and that is important to me while we are Moonwalking.

I like the exercise we get from Moonwalking.  I love that my children can walk and run out some of their left over energy before they go to bed, or we try to get them to bed.  I love that my children are excited about Moonwalking.  I love the Joy we get from Moonwalking.

I love the time with my precious children as we are excited and Joy filled as we look forward to Moonwalking, and then when we put on our shoes and head out into the evening.

Sometimes it can be a twist on an original, like a walk, to make it something special, spectacular, extraordinary.  It is in these moments that we find the Joy - and I believe we find Joy by seeing through our rose coloured glasses, by consciously looking for the greatness, the light.
